Kogarashi -  Angin  Kering  Dari  Utara

Kogarashi  adalah  angin  kering  dari  utara  yang  bertiup  di sekitar  Jepang,  mulai  dari  musim  gugur  hingga  awal  musim  dingin, ketika bagian barat diliputi udara tekanan tinggi dan daerah timurnya oleh  udara  tekanan  rendah  musim  dingin.    Apabila  kecepatan tertinggi  angin  ini  mencapai  8  meter  lebih  per  detik,  barulah dinamakan  kogarashi.

Daun  di  pepohonan  gugur  tertiup  angin, sehingga  membuat  pepohonan  seperti  pohon  yang  kering  kerontang  (kareki),  dari  situlah  asal  nama  kogarashi.    Selain  itu,  meskipun tidak  pasti,  tetapi   kogarashi  juga  ditulis  dengan  huruf  kanji  yang lainnya yaitu ( 凩).

Kogarashi  pertama  yang  bertiup  di  tahun  itu,  akan  disebut sebagai   kogarashi  no  1,  sebutan  ini  dipakai  di  surat  kabar   Jepang mulai tahun  1973.    Kogarashi  no  1  merupakan  salah  satu  tanda peralihan musim dari musim gugur ke musim dingin.    Perkataan ini sekarang  sudah  biasa  terdengar  sebagai  salah  satu  fenomena  pertanda akan datang  musim  dingin.

Untuk  daerah  Kanto,  Kogarashi  no  1  ini diumumkan  oleh  Badan  Prakiraan  Cuaca,  dan  di  daerah  Kinki, diumumkan  oleh  Jawatan  Meteorologi  Daerah  Osaka,  sedangkan  di daerah  lain  meskipun  angin  yang  sama  bertiup  sekalipun  tidak  ada pengumuman tentang Kogarashi no 1 ini.
